La Voz de Lanzarote / EKN: what part of the Sun Park → MYND Yaiza narrative was verified, and what part was attributed?

La Voz published to a local audience directly affected by tourism development in Playa Blanca. We ask a finite question about the basis of its December 2022 and March 2023 reports and whether refurbishment, hotel operation and registered ownership should now be distinguished more precisely.

Two material publications

9 December 2022

EKN reported Government approval of RIC Private Equity shares to finance rehabilitation of Sun Park with the aim of transforming it into MYND Yaiza; it referred to about €12m investment, more than €4m RIC financing, 660 accommodation places, the 17 Nov 2022 AEAT binding favourable report and statements by Enrique Guerra.

23 March 2023

EKN reported the “total refurbishment” of MYND Yaiza, formerly Sun Park apartments, after a Canarian Hospitality presentation, grouping the investment with the Radisson Blu in Costa Teguise.

The central question

Which propositions in those reports were independently checked by La Voz/EKN and which were reproduced or synthesised from Government, RIC Private Equity, Canarian Hospitality, Grupo Acosta Matos or promoters; and does the publication now consider it necessary to clarify that refurbishment/operation of a complex does not by itself determine registered title to all its units?

Finite questions

  1. What note, decree, report, dossier or communication supported the 9 Dec 2022 article?
  2. Was the AEAT binding-report reference checked against the document itself or repeated from a secondary source?
  3. What material supported the 23 Mar 2023 “total refurbishment” description?
  4. Was registered-title information on the Sun Park unit perimeter consulted?
  5. Did La Voz/EKN understand its articles as describing a tourism/operational project rather than unitary ownership?
  6. Would it add an update if current primary records show that distinction is material?

Reasonable editorial defence

The articles clearly attribute important propositions to Government, RICPE, Canarian Hospitality, promoters and Enrique Guerra. They may accurately have described the tourism and financing project without purporting to determine civil/registered ownership. If so, that explanation should also be clear to readers.

What we ask

We do not seek confidential sources. We ask for traceability of the non-confidential basis, precise attribution and an editorial decision on whether any point should be clarified, updated, corrected or restated.
